Talking with one of our Solutions Specialists about how to connect business systems in Katapult Pro, extending and building upon the platform to help teams win.

As our software operations team has grown, we've developed a role that sits at the intersection of engineering, technical development, and account management. Our Solution Specialists bring their own unique perspective to problem solving on top of broad platform knowledge and engineering experience.

Samer Romise joined the Katapult team in April 2026, and is passionate about designing reliable, scalable systems and the long-term, global impact of bringing reliable utilities to people. He spends much of his time building integrations on Katapult Pro's API, with a goal of helping the team, platform, and customers grow while chasing a future where he can bring utility solutions to emerging regions in Africa and the Middle East.

As we continue to shape how data can be utilized internal and external to the platform, I sat down with Samer to understand the architecture behind Katapult Pro's integrations and how he approaches building extensible systems for our customers.

Let's start simple. What do you do as a Solutions Specialist?

"The short version is that I help our clients make the most out of our platform. The longer version is that I consult with them on how to use and integrate Katapult Pro data better, as well as help configure the platform so that it fits their workflows."

Every specialist here has platform expertise as well as a specific area of focus. What's yours?

"I come from an engineering and development background, so my specialty is definitely software development within my seat, which most often shows up as platform extensibility."

What does that mean?

"Extensibility is the ability to use Katapult Pro beyond its core capabilities. Putting the power in your hands in order to make the platform even more customizable to you, and get even more out of the data that you keep in the platform.

Being able to manipulate the data that you own in creative ways, whether it's outside of the platform, or manipulating data from outside of the platform as part of your Katapult Pro workflow. It's kind of like a two-way highway of data coming in, data going out.

I always tell people on the calls, your only boundary when it comes to extensibility is creativity. All the data you could possibly need is available to you. It's just how you use it."

What's an example of something that is super valuable but not very creative?

"Data mirroring. People who want to get their data that is in Katapult Pro into a different database that they can then query and use freely without having to go through us. There's some creativity in making it efficient, but the idea itself is our most popular use case, and it's probably the most basic use case of the tool. Literally, you're almost copying data from one place to another."

And the most creative?

"An easy example is data analytics. You can almost create your own dashboard, or even integrate Power BI. You can create custom tools that use our API to accomplish different things.

I think also creating full jobs and designs using our API. That's something I've seen done that, in my opinion, is very creative, and it can cut down on so much work in specific situations. If a human can just take a look at the job, tweak what needs updated? Yes, done. That's as fast as it can go if you use the API.

Some of our clients don't necessarily use Katapult Pro for poles. You have people who use it for fiber to the home. A lot of people, especially ISPs, use our nodes as homes. In that world, they mainly have addresses that they need to get into Katapult, and they don't have to do that in the field. Or even manually in the office."

We're getting ready to roll out some new extended API functionality. What do you see as the opportunity for our clients there?

"We have a bunch of calls that are limited to our extended API. You get the extended API when you are on a private server, so that is the one requirement there. But once you get there, you have higher token limits, so less restriction. You can utilize the API a lot more, and you also have access to different calls, like raw job writes, to get past some of the technicalities.

A cool use case that we've seen is being able to track what every Katapult user in your company is doing in that moment. I can see what page you're on, what job you're looking at, what pole you're looking at. That can be super helpful just to coordinate from a PM perspective. It can also be helpful if I'm doing a walkthrough. Instead of telling everybody to go to this pole, I can create a tool using the API, and I can force users to jump directly to this pole. You can both get and set user states.

You can have things like that, where you are able to see the user state and track productivity and things throughout the day. That's something that we have a lot of people use, and you can also do that with action tracking, but this makes it way more visible, and there's just a lot of clarity. You can also fetch your whole model and use that as data validation somewhere else. Without the extended API, you can only fetch piece by piece. It's definitely a bit of an advantage, and we're trying to create a lot more opportunity there."

What would you like to see become a reality for our customers when it comes to extensibility in 2027 and beyond?

"I'd really like clients to be able to have their pick. I want there to be a set of offerings that we have that utilize our API, that a customer can just choose and add to their experience with a click. I don't want people to have to reach out to us and ask, can I get this, can I get this? But I'd really like them to see offerings that are just there, that can work instantly, that they can add or remove if they don't use them.

I think it would be super helpful, especially with us wanting to be so careful with our core platform. We want our core platform to be reliable. That gives us a chance to really experiment and try new things and give our clients an edge in the industry. Not a lot of teams have developers. The fact that we can use our creativity and our knowledge in the space to push that boundary of technology into the industry, I think, can be super helpful in the future and in how efficient the work is."

What's your favorite part of the job?

"Problem solving. Just all problems. I love getting into problems that maybe other people don't know how to solve, or they're too complicated, and I just love breaking them down, being able to solve them, and being able to deliver back to the client or one of our internal teams."
