Workflow Management for Reconductoring Projects

Updated: Nov 12

Reconductoring projects help ensure reliability within the grid even as demand grows.

Updating aging infrastructure does more than avoid failure—it helps ensure a more efficient, more reliable grid, but we need more intuitive tools to help reach those goals.

Reconductoring projects are one way to upgrade grid performance, update aging assets, and increase system capacity to accommodate new demand. Unfortunately, it’s also complicated because:

  1. Many customers (like hospitals and industrial facilities) can’t tolerate outages.

  2. Not all sections have alternate feed options, making it impossible to de-energize lines without causing an outage.

  3. Working on energized lines is incredibly complex and potentially hazardous.

Reconductoring projects need strategic scheduling and tracking to ensure safe execution.

Automated notification tools can help keep customers in the know about potential interruptions, and full-stack mapping and management tools help utilities identify live areas and bypass systems to minimize the impact of outages. Workflow management tools with permitting and inspection processes help make sure new improvements are built correctly.

Grid upgrades are going to require us to flex our creative muscles to build tools that tackle these challenges. Our workflow management offering helps coordinate projects like reconductoring for smoother rollout. For more info, shoot us an email at contact@katapultengineering.com
