We all know that a good workflow with old tech beats a bad workflow with great tech every day of the week. No matter how much we know this to be true, bad workflows can thrive (is "fester" a better verb?) for a few reasons:
The status quo is sticky. It takes great effort and evidence that something new will be better to tip the scales and cause a paradigm shift.
It's easier to focus on tech. The fixation with tools and software makes it easy to ignore the elephant in the room.
Pain/Power misalignment. Those feeling the pain of bad workflows are rarely the group with the power to make changes.
Some of our favorite customers are the teams who refer to themselves as "technology agnostic," which is a cute way of saying that their use of Katapult Pro is entirely dependent on our ongoing ability to help them solve problems. It means they already use or are willing to use competitor products/services at any time if it helps them win.
Needless to say, it keeps us on our toes.
Thankfully, our internal engineering services team not only provides lots of feedback, they also tackle new projects and workflows that help us better equip customers working outside the scope of Aerial OSP and the world of telecom attachments.
If your team provides other overhead distribution services, such as pole inspections, construction verification, equipment inventories, and more—here are a few benefits of using Katapult Pro that might help you improve those workflows:
1. Rapid Survey
There are two types of rapid data collection workflows that can be done in Katapult Pro.
The first situation is if height measurements are not necessary. Field technicians can collect hundreds of assets in a day by foot, or a few thousand by car.
This workflow is exceptional for equipment inventories (transformers, streetlights, etc) and attachment audits.
The second situation is if the original data collection was performed in Katapult Pro. We can recycle measurements from an intial survey onto a validation photo to confirm that construction has or has not occurred.
This workflow is fantastic for as-built documentation and construction feedback.
2. Distribution Workflow Management
When we upgraded our pole attachments portal in 2022, we built an engine that would help us track, manage, report, and collaborate around in-progress work. Turns out it's great for other projects, too.
We use the Overview page to provide a high-level dashboard of work in progress. You can configure your column headings and filter/search within all projects to get down to just the view you need to organize your work.
The model editor is used to create new workflows for your team to follow. Each project type can follow a unique flowchart with custom statuses, signoffs, and email notifications to the proper parties.
The configuration options here are endless, but our team can help answer questions or even consult with you on your workflows and configure these tools on your behalf.
3. Integrated Pole Loading Analysis
Our built-in, real-time loading engine is excellent for analyzing existing and proposed conditions for distribution poles at the same time.
Pole inspections and other distribution maintenance/upgrade workflows all benefit from ensuring that all poles pass the appropriate distribution standards and get the maintenance they need to keep the grid safe.
Thanks for reading! Give us a shout at contact@katapultengineering.com if you're looking to extend your use of Katapult Pro to other distribution workflows. We'd love to hear about them and help you win!
